Add a Touch of Elegance with an Iron Chandelier
A traditional iron chandelier is a decorative light fixture that is suspended from a ceiling. They usually have five or more branches that support the lights. Before electricity was invented the chandelier held candles on its thick branches. Many of the older chandeliers were made of wood and had a simple shape to them. As metal work and technology advanced the chandelier took on many transformations. Somewhere around the 12th century iron and bronze became the metals of choice when a chandelier was created. Around the globe the chandelier became a popular piece of work that illuminated homes. Each geographical location that incorporated the chandelier as a light fixture added a piece of their heritages design touch to it.
A Spanish style iron chandelier is a true piece of art. They are usually
handcrafted with many different types of embellishments. The iron used for the base and branches of this style of chandelier is bent by hand and molded into shape. A skilled craftsman will sometimes incorporate colorful plates of stained glass into the design of a Spanish style iron chandeliers. Bronze or black finish is usually added to the iron after the completion to add style to the chandelier.
Iron and wrought-iron chandeliers can add a touch of elegance to any home decor. Black wrought iron chandeliers are popular in many different design styles. Several of these types of chandeliers will carry five or more bulbs on their branches. Some of the wrought iron styled lights strayed away from the candle look to a more modern style. These modern style lights usually have covers over or surrounding the bulbs and tend to be white or cream in color. One of the more popular rooms that house a chandelier will be in the dining room. While iron chandeliers are elegant in design the bulbs tend to be of softer light and can create a natural glow to the room.
An iron chandelier from the Antigua and Bermuda area will tend to be very ornamental and elegant in its style. Earth tones are used throughout the entire chandelier. They can either have the candle styled bulbs or will be a drop style pendant hanging bulb. Each bulb will be attached to the chandelier by chains or by branches.
