Breakfast Nooks Without Windows

If you do not have a corner breakfast nook, meaning that the breakfast nook is not at the corner of your home with outside walls then you probably do not have windows in your nook area. Without windows and the opportunity for window treatments to help with decorating, you need to be a bit more creative when it comes to decorating your breakfast nook. One way to add color and texture to your nook is the use cushions and pillows.

I once saw a picture of a breakfast nook area that I thought was a brilliant use of throw pillows and seat cushions. This nook was set up with a corner breakfast nookbreakfast nook set. The bench that was in the corner was built into the wall. Rather than having a back to the bench, the wall was the back. The seat part of the bench was deeper than usually so that there was room behind where you sat for many throw pillows. The homeowner had put corner nook cushions on the benches in a neutral toned fabric. Then, the pillows were bright colors that brought out the subtle colors in the wallpaper. The front of the bottom part of the bench that is behind your legs when you are sitting down was covered with the same wallpaper as the walls and it made the whole arrangement look seamless. You could almost not tell there was a bench there if you looked into the room quickly. Of course, there was built in storage underneath the bench cushions, but the throw pillows made it a bit harder to get into the storage area.

I mentioned wallpaper in the breakfast nook above. Because there are no windows, I think it works to put patterned wallpaper on the walls because you have enough space to make it work. Putting patterned wallpaper on the small spaces in between windows and the ceiling, etc. does not make sense. However, if you have a larger canvas, then the wallpaper can look good. If you have enough wall art, then painting the walls could be enough and you do not need to wallpaper.
