Bunk Beds and Making Sure They Fit the Space
Keep a few things in mind as you begin to evaluate the different kinds of bunks beds for your kids. The first should be the most obvious, find out what your needs are. Make sure your kids have some input and you choose one that meets the functionality needs you may have. In today’s market the beds can be used for storage as well as study areas, bed designers are trying hard to make the beds versatile.
Making sure you have the proper room in the area you intend to place the
bed will be critical in making sure the bed is best served in that child’s room. Finally it will be critical you have a budget in place for the bed before you begin the hunt. Let your finances be the deciding factor and not the salesmen, or wow factor of the bed.
Bunk beds tend to be a little pricy, so make sure you know what you want and how you want it, here are the major types of beds offered;
Basic Bunk Beds – This is the standard where one bed in positioned immediately on top of the other. Most of the time these can be separated as two individual beds.
Bunk Beds with Futons – How these work is with a futon style bed on the bottom that doubles as a couch and then the twin bed on top for the other child. Be careful with this one as it will only look good if the bottom bunk is tidy and keeps the bed made and in couch position.
The L Shaped Bunk Bed – This is the bunk where the top and bottom are positioned in a perpendicular way, in other words, the top bed has its feet pointing south and the bottom has its feet pointing east. This ads more space underneath for a small desk, or additional storage.
Study Loft – This is where the bunk also has little areas for study, a little desk with some drawers. This can be especially useful if you are stuck for space, the downside is that the desk usually is at the head or foot of the bed meaning the room needs to be really long in order to accommodate it.
All other beds are variations of these primary function, some will have storage, some will be more like adjustable beds some will have hanger and other little whistles. Choosing one that works for your family will just take a little planning.
