If you live in a cold country, then there’s no doubt that you’ll have experienced a freezing home at one point or another. The problems with a cold home are numerous – it can make illness more likely, increase the chance of mould and other house issues and make living much less comfortable. There’s also the problem, however, of the pipes in the home freezing, which can result in a disaster if not dealt with correctly. The best way to make sure this doesn’t happen is to use digital temperature controllers. Here are a few tips for ensuring that you don’t get frozen pipes during the winter months using heating systems for home use.

The most important thing is to make sure you loft is well insulated. A well insulated loft will greatly decrease the chance of getting frozen pipes, as this is where the problem is most likely to occur. Frozen pipes can happen in the rest of the house, but because of central heating this is much less common. For comfort, you can install bathroom floor heating.

Trace heating is one of the easiest ways of preventing frozen pipes in the loft, and is also very energy efficient. Trace heating is simply thin wires which heat up the pipes and prevent it from freezing. If this is attached to temperature controllers, then the heating will only come on when the temperature in the loft falls below a certain level. This is a great way of reducing the chance of a frozen pipe while not using up too much energy at the same time.

If a frozen pipe does occur then you need to take action immediately. Turning off the water at the mains is the first step, and then you should contact a professional plumber as quickly as possible. Failure to deal with a frozen pipe could lead to a crack in the pipe work, followed by a large amount of water flowing out of the pipe directly into the home.

While electric heaters come in a wide range of sizes, shapes, features, and colors, it can seem like your choices are limited once you settle on a specific design. Besides design, there are other important choices to take into consideration like pricing and warranty. This article covers some important points to consider when looking at an electric heater.

Pricing Comparison
Comparing pricing for electric heaters is far easier than comparing other heating methods, such as with a ventless gas fireplace. The first thing to consider is that a $500 1500 watt heater puts out no more heat than a $250 1500 watt heater. Heat output is heat output. Even the most ‘advanced heater technology’ shouldn’t cost more than $250 for the primary function of heating. You can consider anything you pay beyond this amount to be for features, craftsmanship, brand name, or just marketing. Things like wrought iron fireplace doors and features like that will increase the price dramatically.

Design Considerations
If you want to compare prices from one electric fireplace to another, start by settling on a design. Do you want a stationary or portable electric fireplace? If portable, do you want it to have wheels or are you OK carrying it? Where will the fireplace be mounted? Are you looking for an electric fireplace insert, or would a wall mounted electric heater be better for your home? Once you have your desired design features nailed down, you can then compare price, warranty, and features.

Note the Warranty
An electric fireplace can easily go from working perfectly to not working at all. When it does this, it will often give no indication as to where the problem lies. This is why it is so important to invest in a warranty for your new electric fireplace. If your manufacturer does not offer an extended warranty, look for online companies like Square Trade that will offer an extended warranty on your online purchase. Many customers are ensnared by this common pitfall. A quick read of online reviews will confirm that many customers find themselves with a non-working heater as well as a non-existent warranty.

When considering an electric heater or electric fireplace, it’s important to consider warranty and features as well as price. These three things together for the total cost of ownership, and paying attention to all three will ensure that you remain happy with your purchase.

The price of household energy bills is going up again for gas and electricity, and it now puts the average homeowner’s bill up to 1,300 pounds a year. Consumers need to consider switching their energy supplier quickly and compare gas and electricity prices for their home to see if they are getting a good deal.

Consumers need to make sure that they are paying the lowest price for their energy and need to know how to start using less of it. A study has found that not many homeowners are paying the lowest rates for their energy, and that that only half of the households have decided to switch energy providers. Consumers will be glad to know that by switching energy supplier you could potentially save around 500 pounds by getting the cheapest propane gas prices. The most important task for homeowners who have not switched is to use an energy comparison tool and see how your current prices from your current supplier compare against the rest of the market. All you need is where you live, an actual reading and usage of your electricity and gas, and how much you have been paying for your energy. EON gas and electricity is worth a look at their prices.

In most cases there will be savings to be enjoyed, and if you have never switched before you’ll definitely see some savings. In order to get the best out of switching your gas and electricity you should try and get a dual fuel plan, this is where you get both gas and electricity from the same supplier, and you should get a discount for this.

Paying for your plan by direct debt will also get you more savings and a discount. Paying monthly rather than quarterly means you’ll pay a fixed cost every month and will depend on your usage of energy. A great way to pay for you energy if your on a fixed budget.

Look at fixing the price of the energy, you can do this for a year, and you will not be charged any price increased prices until the fixed period of time is over. This is usually fixed for 12 months and another great way to stay in control and be able to budget your bills better.

A pull down attic stair insulation kit can be installed in about 15 minutes. There are several different models available; all of these come with easy-to-follow instructions and offer years of energy-saving use. Consumers need to measure the attic stairway, find the right sized insulation kit and install it. Once this cover is in place, homeowners’ comfort will increase and utility bills decrease, since it will prevent heat loss in homes.

By measuring the attic stairway entrance, the right sized cover will be purchased. Two of the common sizes are 25″ x 54″ and 22″ x 54″; other sizes are available. These are a cardboard or polystyrene box that sits over the top of the stairway entrance in the attic. When the stairway is used, this light insulated cover is easily moved out of the way. Regardless of the heating system for home use that you have installed, you can use this method to help.

Choosing the right amount of insulation increases consumers comfort and satisfaction. Even a cardboard design covered in light coat of reflective insulation reduces heat transfer and stops air movement through the normal gaps in the stairway. Insulation is rated by R-factor that measures how fast heat is transferred from one side of the insulating piece to the other. The higher R-factor provides more insulation protection. Consumers can choose the R-factor that fits their unique situation.

These kits are easy to find. They are at home-improvement stores, home improvement centers and featured on different Internet sites. Consumers can pick these up in person or have them conveniently delivered to their door.

Attic insulation kits install quickly and do not require any tools. Each kit comes with detailed instructions. These are lightweight and easy to move to the desired location.

With just a few minutes of time, this energy saving insulated cover can be installed over an attic stairway. Consumers are more comfortable as cold drafts are eliminated. As soon as these covers are installed, the cost of heating and cooling the home is reduced.

In the ever growing world of urban living, where apartment spaces have become too small for old-fashioned fireplaces to exist, alternative heating solutions have been developed to ensure that our very home provides us the comfortable warmth we need during the unforgiving winter months. Here are some of the most popular heating systems for homes which you may likely find in apartments and offices around you and works great to prevent heat loss in homes.

The most common of the heating systems for homes—though not the most cost efficient—is the forced-air type, which uses air to transfer heat throughout the room. Air heated up by a single furnace is distributed by vents and ductwork throughout the building. This type is commonly referred as a central heating or cooling system because the same vents are used to distribute cool air during the summer season.

Radiant heaters, which were initially used in large buildings or storage spaces, have already made their way in modern homes. A radiant heater works by forcing steam or hot water through metal tubes located beneath the floor, as in radiant underfloor heating systems, or they can be on the ceiling. The metal tubes radiate the heat toward the floor or any nearby objects, which in turn releases the absorbed heat—a process which proved to be more energy efficient than the forced-air heating system. Another variant of the radiant heater is what is commonly called a radiator, which is installed upright just beside the wall. However, such a bulky structure can be an eyesore with all your elegant furnishings around.

So if your heater breaks down at any time of the day, then it’s time to call in a round-the-clock professional HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning) repair technician. If you live in Georgia, for example, a company like Heat Repair Atlanta provides great 24 hour service when your heaters breaks. In addition heaters they also service complex air-conditioning systems abd they are sure to give you great value for your money each and every time.
