Choosing an Interior Designer

Published by at 12:06 pm under Decorating

Creating the perfect home is something that most of us aspire too but it isn’t always easy. In most cases, unless you’ve had extensive experience with interior design in the past or have a real talent for creating designs then it’s a good idea to contact and hire a professional designer to do it for you. In this article we’ll be talking about a few of the different factors you need to consider when choosing an interior designer.

When trying to find any trades-person the best place to start your search is with friends and family. You’re bound to know someone who has used an interior designer in the past and if you provide a good recommendation then it makes your job a lot easier. Make sure you find out form your friends whether the designer finished the job on time and whether they were worth the price.

If your friends and family don’t know anyone then you could try the internet or local newspaper where there are often adverts for designers.

When choosing an interior designer make sure you find out exactly what their credentials are and how much experience they have. You should also view previous designs they created to see whether you like their style. If you don’t then that isn’t a problem, just move on and find someone else as there is no point wasting yours and the designer’s time.

Remember, there is a difference between a decorator and designer. If you’ve created the design already and just need help with bringing it to life then a decorator is the right person for the job. On the other hand, if you want the whole design created from scratch then you need to get a designer. An interior designer will usually be able to help you with both creating the design and then making sure it’s brought into your home correctly. Creating home interiors isn’t always straightforward so getting a professional to help you is nearly always a good idea.
