The purpose of the veneer sheets is to insulate the solid wood core from any damage; preventing t it from rotting and warping.  This type is also known as a composite door, since it is produced using a few different materials molded together.

Hollow core door is another type. It is a door frame covered with hardwood veneer sheets. This is the cheapest door available for there is less material used in constructing it. Then there are custom-made doors using a solid piece of hardwood designed to your preference. You could say that this would be your piece of art. This one would really cost a lot, but it is considered a very good investment.  Of course you should also consider the accessories that would complement your door like doorknobs, knockers and bolts.
