Spring cleaning time, right? You might want to rent a storage locker to move some of your stuff to while you get everything else organized. Storage lockers are available at self storage locations, warehouses, and in large outdoor storage facilities that rent space by the month. Use one for that extra furniture, winter boxes of holiday stuff, extra toys and equipment, or just about anything that isn’t toxic or illegal! If you don’t want to sell it at a garage sale, then consider renting a storage locker for a short or long term.

You can rent smaller size storage lockers, such as 6×4 feet, for well under fifty bucks a month, with discounts for longer term leases.  You can also rent sizes up to entire rooms, 10×12 or larger.  No matter how much you have to store, you can find a size to fit everything.  It’s best to figure out in advance what you want to store at the storage facility, and that way you can decide what is the smallest size you will need to start.  The manager at the site can also help you estimate your needs.  You can always upgrade of course.

What kinds of things might you store?  Well if your attic or basement is overflowing, and these are things you want to keep you might consider moving some off site to free up space at home, say to finish your basement as extra living space.  Many people as they head into retirement have things they want to keep for their kids or grand-kids, such as furniture or other items, and moving into smaller space means they can’t store it.  Or if your kids are headed to college, why not store their bedroom furniture for the future when they move out of campus housing into an apartment of their own?  Storing items that clear out your house makes organizing easier.

Check around at the different facilities near you to find the best deals.  Don’t take a lease for longer or for a larger space than you need,  since getting out of these contracts can be nearly impossible. Start with what you absolutely need, you can always add to your terms later.  Storage lockers can be a big help to the growing or changing family.
