Closing Your Swimming Pool for the Season

Being you are looking up how to close an outdoor swimming pool you most likely either currently own a swimming pool or you are somehow related to responsibilities in maintaining a swimming pool. Swimming pools, especially in ground models cost thousands of dollars to have installed, and cost quite a bit of money to regularly maintain. Because of this it is important to protect your pool from damage due to seasonal weather changes and avoid having to make costly repairs.

What can winter weather do to a swimming pool?

Winter weather poses a risk to freeze the water in a pool. When water freezes swimming pool coverit not only becomes solid but it will expand outwards by a percentage. This then puts pressure against the walls and floor of the pool with can lead to significant cracking or damage not only to the frame of the pool but to all connecting filters, fans, and weather sensitive pool accessories.

One reliable way to close a pool properly for the season without risk of making a fatal mistake is to hire a pool service company which will treat and tend to your pool regularly for a usually reasonable price.

If you would rather close the pool yourself, the first thing you want to do is treat the chemicals in your pool to even out all levels to the proper degree or percentage. You can purchase water condition tests at any pool store, and then use this test to tell you what is too high and what is too low.

Next, you will want to get a pool cover and a pool cover pump. This will protect the water in your pool from getting exposed to elements outside such as falling debris. Before you put the cover over the pool get floats which sit in the water.  What these floats do is prevent too much pressure from pushing against the pool walls as the water freezes.

Once you have accomplished the basics you should be in the safe zone for not damaging the walls of your pool during off seasons.
