The exterior of a home can be greatly enhanced by an attractive main entrance door. When selecting this important door many people believe they have a choice of only wood or u PVC available to them – but there is an alternative – a composite door and they are rapidly becoming the preferred choice.

There are many benefits to composite doors which are made from advanced composite materials. Unlike wooden doors, composite doors do not require regular maintenance and are not prone to warping or twisting. Unlike uPVC doors, composite doors are strong and heavy, giving your home the security it needs. The overall door thickness is 44mm (1 ¾“) including a fibreglass outer skin. Improving their security further is their locking system – often fitted with 4 hinges and multi point lock systems. Their durable make up means they are resistant to impact and could prevent even the most persistent burglar from entering.

They are highly weather resistant and although no real maintenance is required, they have a typical life expectancy of up to 35 years.

A composite door requires a specific door frame and threshold. The door frame must be dedicated uPVC composite of 70mm thick and fully reinforced with galvanised steel and triple weather seals. There must be an aluminium low threshold in line with the building code.

Like most standard exterior doors, composite doors come in a variety of colours and wood grain effect. Glass can be included and again a wide choice is available – plain, bevelled, frosted, coloured or leaded.

Composite doors can be fitted as a single door or as double doors. The wide selection of styles allows you to personalise the door and enhancing the appearance of the entrance to your home in whatever way you choose.
