Customizing Your Bathroom Vanity

Published by at 9:33 pm under Uncategorized

Despite there being an almost limitless choice of great bathroom vanities, there is always the pleasure to be derived from designing and building your very own customized vanity cabinet. By doing it yourself, you can include features that may be novel or uniquely wanted for your personal use. Customizing your bathroom decor provided both added functionality but also that personal touch so important for some homeowners.

Once the amount of space available is determined it is time to begin selecting bathroom vanitythe materials you will use. If an ultramodern look is desired, the vanity cabinet can be formed from metal, glass, fiberglass, or as is most common, wood of your choice to create a style like many designer bathroom vanities. The sink bowl also comes in a variety of materials. Depending on your preference, steel, porcelain, plastic, or ceramic sinks can be matched to countertops of plastic laminate, granite, marble, or even water-sealed wood can be used to create the top of your vanity. Since some of the types of countertops come in only certain sizes, make sure the measurements for the cabinet match the top for a comfortable fit.

By customizing your bathroom vanity you have the choice of what type or style of mirror you will include. You can determine if it will be wall-mounted, attached to the countertop, or freestanding. The types and sizes of cabinet storage space, drawers for medicines and toiletries, and storage for linens are all up to you. Extra lighting for make-up or grooming purposes can be added in whatever way you wish, from top lighting to sidelights around the mirror.

When creating a custom bathroom vanity, it is also a good idea to remodel the rest of the bathroom fixtures, commodes, shower or tub trimmings and the like to match the style you are creating with the vanity.  If you have the space and really want to get fancy, you could put in a corner makeup vanity in one of the corners.  It may be some work and effort but once finished you will have a bathroom not only to be proud of but will have that “special nook” for any personal item you never could figure out where to put on a standard vanity counter.
