Getting the right LCD TV stand
You’ve got your self a nice new super flat LCD TV but where are you going to put it? Have you got the sort the home where you can fix your TV to the wall, or is it a newer type of property where the walls are made from plasterboard and won’t support the weight of the TV? A lot of people can’t or are reluctant to place their TV on the wall. If you’re one of those people, here are five features to check before you part with your cash and buy a TV stand:
Does it have enough shelves to store all of your AV equipment?
Not having enough shelves is very annoying. Try to look forward into the
future when buying your stand – is there any other set top box or piece of AV equipment that you are likely to buy? A Wii? A PS3? Not having space on your shelves is a sure fire way to get in trouble with your other half when the ‘extra’ boxes start lying by the side of the TV.
Is the space between the shelves sufficient for your equipment?
If you’ve got a home cinema set up then your amplifier may be deeper than average CD or DVD player, with the stand you are looking at do you have sufficient space for you amplifier to fit under the shelf and leave enough room to for air to circulate to keep it cool?
Is there a cable management system?
Unless you’ve got wireless surround sound it’s likely that the back of your system looks like some sort of ‘techno’ pile of spaghetti. Getting a TV stand that can house and organise all of your cable is a neat feature to have. If you are looking for a glass TV stand then I wouldn’t even consider one without cable management – although glass TV stands for LCD TVs look great they don’t hide anything – so that jumbled mess of wire would be visible for all to see.
