How a Microwave Oven Works and How It Should Be Used

Published by at 1:39 pm under appliances

The innovation of microwave ovens revolutionized a lot of households all over the world. Decades after their first release, they are still hot nowadays and could be found not only in kitchens but corporate staff rooms as well. A red microwave oven, the classic stainless ones, or even the common whites have become a staple in every place where heating and cooking meals are a necessity.

So, how do microwave ovens work exactly?

Microwave ovens work pretty much the same way regardless of their brands and colors. Just because red microwave ovens look fancy does not mean that they are only great for display. Color or not, microwave ovens are reliable in preparing your food– reheating, thawing, or even cooking.

red microwave ovenA microwave works through the heat it produces called microwave radiation. Often times, this radiation uses 2500MHz frequency. Aside from this radiation, the appliance is commonly constituted by a control keypad, a digital clock, a rotating turntable, a humidity sensor, and a magnetron.

The machine is quite easy to use and even young children can operate it without a hassle. However, to make sure that everyone is safe, household members should be oriented about the basic rules on using it. For one, metallic containers or utensils are a big no-no. Aside from metal being a heat conductor, the microwave radiation hitting its surface could actually cause a dangerous explosion. It could even start a fire. Instead of using anything metallic, use glass, ceramics, or microwave-safe plastics instead. Although they would also heat up, they will not explode under normal circumstances. They will be easier to handle too. Make it habit to check the containers before tossing them in the machine. If they have signs saying “microwave safe” then you can use them by all means.

Modern microwave ovens are not only available in colors but also in different sizes. Medium-sized ones are great for home use while the larger types are suitable for businesses. If you live alone, a compact one would even do the job. It is big enough to heat your leftover or cook a single serving of meal to fill you up.
