Kitchen Space Saving Ideas

Many people have a small kitchen with limited space.  Having a kitchen like this forces you to get creative if you want to fit a lot of equipment into it and still have some counter space left.  Here are some of the best ideas that I’ve seen for saving space in a kitchen of limited size.

Using a Kitchen Cart

A great way to free up a little counter space is to use a kitchen cart or island.  These come in sizes ranging from small and square to large and rectangular.  If you have a really small kitchen, you can get a small square one and fit it into the corner somewhere.  The beauty of these kitchen carts is that you can put the microwave on the top of it, and store other appliances like the coffee maker, the blender, etc. on the shelves below.  You can also keep dishes and other kitchen items there if you have limited cabinet space.

Getting a Convection Microwave Oven

Another great way to gain extra kitchen space is to buy appliances that combine two or more things into one.  One of the best examples of this is the convection microwave oven. They can operate as both a convection oven and a microwave, so if you get one of these, you don’t need to have a full size range oven that takes up a large chunk of your kitchen.

Using a Tabletop Dishwasher

Many people run into this problem when they have one of those tiny apartment kitchens:  They want a dishwasher, but there is simply nowhere to fit it in.  Fortunately, you can get a small tabletop dishwasher that is perfect for these situations.  They are designed to either sit on the countertop or be placed on a kitchen cart where they can then be rolled next to the sink when you want to use them.  Unlike full size units, these countertop dishwashers can only hold about 4 place settings, but if your kitchen is that small, chances are you don’t have that many people living in the apartment anyway.

Utilizing Closet Space

Many people don’t really use the storage space their kitchen already has very effectively.  If you have a kitchen pantry, you can store a lot of items there, which frees up counter space and room in drawers and cupboards.  The pantry is a great location for putting things like kitchen and household cleaners as well.  These items are best tucked away in a location like this.  Some people even put hooks on the inside of their pantry doors to hang brooms, mops, and other unsightly items.  For more information on cleaning, take a look at the website all about cleaners.

Sometimes it surprises me when I see how cluttered many people’s closets are.  They think that they don’t have enough room for everything, but in reality their stuff would fit easily if only they organized it better. For this reason, closet organization with the use of bins and shelves can really do wonders for saving space in the kitchen.
