Organize Your Teen’s Bedroom
It is very common for a teenager’s room to be cluttered and unorganized. After all, they have a lot of other things to think about besides cleaning up their room every day. Add to this the fact that teenagers tend to spend a great deal of time in their rooms and also like to acquire new “stuff” all the time and the likelihood of keeping a room organized is very low.
So what’s the answer? For some people it’s give up and shut the door. If you are not the type to look the other way then here are a few tips for you. As always, having a place for everything is key. Take a good look at the overflow of items to determine the types of things that do not have a home. Are there a
dozen pairs of shoes with no place to go? Maybe a bunch of magazines, sweatshirts or video games need a spot? Once you have identified which items need to be better organized, the job is much easier.
There are wood closet organizers that could work if your teen has a large closet. These systems may be overkill, however. A better approach may be to purchase individual organizers such as hanging shelves and shoe racks to address the specific needs of your teen. If you have some money to put toward the project, check out some of the organizers at the Pottery Barn catalog for teens. If you don’t want to pay top dollar, you can check out PB Teen for some inspiration and they head over to the discount store and create similar organizers for half the price.
If you have any kids room organizers, you may be able to update them with a little spray paint and use them again for your teen. Container stores and superstores like Ikea are also spreading to most major cities. These stores can be a good source of organizers that teens would like. Department stores usually carry a lot of storage units for college students during the summer months along with their other back-to-school items. If they are interested, let your teenager help with the organization process and they will be more likely to keep their room a little more picked up after the big overhaul.
