First, tell everyone in your family or your room mates of your intent to save money on the home electricity bill. This helps everyone to be more conscious of how much electricity they are using and wasting.

Second, have everyone start unplugging their phone chargers when they are done with them. This rule should also be applied to every other household appliance that is not is use.  Think of other appliances you keep plugged in, which are still using residual power.  For example, irons, toasters and even lamps are easy appliances to unplug.

Another often overlooked way to save on the light bill is to turn off outside lights promptly in the morning as soon as you wake. This prevents hours of added wasted electricity, when the sun is already out giving us free natural light.

Finally, an obvious but often forgotten way of saving money that should be a part of every household’s list of home electricity saving tips is turning off unused lights throughout the house.  Whether it is out of habit, or neglect, we often use more light than we need and keep lights on unnecessarily.  For example, keeping the hall light on throughout the night when everyone is asleep. Over the long-term these quick and easy change of habits can put a little more in your pocket and also be a huge help to our environment.
