There are many types of furniture that can be used outdoors on patios and decks, but one of the most versatile are those that provide storage as well.  Storage benches are a great way to get some added seating on your patio or deck while providing a place to hide away all of the small outdoor items you may need but have no other place to store.  They come in all types of styles and designs, as well as sizes, so you can find one to fit your decorating scheme as well as to fit your storage needs.

One of the best uses for the storage in these benches is to hold patio chair cushions when not in use.  This is a huge benefit because most cushions are best off not being left outdoors all of the time in order to preserve the fabric.  The fabric of the cushions, as well as the foam inside, can deteriorate over time if constantly exposed to moisture or can grow mold and mildew.  The sun can also fade the fabric or cause the outer layer to crack if they are vinyl.  By putting the cushions away when not in use, you can prolong the lifespan of them.  The only problem is that there aren’t many places to store these items so having a bench with a storage compartment becomes very helpful.

In addition to storing cushions, you can also store many other outside objects, such as tools for the barbecue, toys for the kids, candles, towels, flip flops and almost any other type of small item that you use outdoors but don’t need to bring inside.  By being able to keep these items self contained outdoors, you don’t have the added hassle of having to bring them in and out of the house or finding space in a garage or shed within which to store everything.
