The Many Uses of Window Shutters
Window shutters are mainly used to protect privacy of the rooms and control the amount of light entering through the window at any point of time. Usually made of wood or fiberglass, window shutters consist of a solid frame housing vertical and horizontal rails. This actually works like a shutter since wood panels, glasses or louvers are set within the frame.
They could be used as interior or as exterior window shutters depending on their application. Interior shutters usually swing inside and enable light and air to come inside the room whereas exterior shutters are built from teak and primarily used for protection against dust, debris and strong gales from outside.
Some are called hurricane shutters or storm shutters and they are very much durable in nature. Installation is not a very difficult part and instruction manuals are nearly always included in the package, making the installation an easy, step by step manner.
Firstly, the shutters need to be painted well, along with the hanging strip that will hold the weight of the shutter. The hinges need to be selected before the installation and they should open and closing easily without sticking. Face mount hinges are used to attach the covering and a drill would be required to drill small holes through which the screws would pass. Prior to final installation, the shutters need to be checked to make sure that they close and open without any gaps or mismatching overlaps.
Overall, the process is fairly easy and can be done quickly and effectively without much hassle. While buying shutters, there are many good companies which offer a wide array of products. Horizontal Interior is one company that makes custom made items that are useful and also enhance the aesthetic value of a house.
The best thing to do before purchasing would be to consult a windows covering directory that has information on companies, product ranges, and installation and purchase tips. Since there are thousands of companies supplying window covers, it’s advisable to do your pre-purchase research thoroughly.
