1. Giving Up

Just because it is difficult to know what to buy when it comes to window valances does not mean that you should give up entirely and not buy any at all. 2. Getting the Basic Style Wrong

It goes without saying that the style of valance you choose should be in keeping with the style of the rest of the room but people often think that style is about color and fabric. In fact with valances it is the configuration that is most important as some are very formal in style and others are wonderfully informal. A stiff formal valance is not going to look good in a relaxed casual room and similarly a soft flowing valance will look out of place in formal room such as a traditional dining room full of antique furniture.

3. Getting the Length Wrong

Once you have the basic style right, the details can trip you up. Make sure that the length of your valance is in proportion to the window. You will quickly see that certain lengths look terrible while others are just right for your windows.
