What to Avoid with Window Valances
Most of us understand what to do with curtains and we can buy a pair and hang them at our windows quite successfully, getting the size and color right but for some reason when it comes to window valances we are less confident. That is probably because of the diversity of styles of valances available and the fact that they so few ready made valances in the stores. This means that you have a multitude of options when you go to have custom valances made and it can be difficult to imagine how they will look with your windows. Here are some tips on things to avoid when you go to buy window valances.
1. Giving Up
Just because it is difficult to know what to buy when it comes to window valances does not mean that you should give up entirely and not buy any at all. The best window valances do a great deal to enhance your windows so that would be a real shame. If you are confused take a look at Window Valances Online which has detailed information on How to Choose Window Valances.
2. Getting the Basic Style Wrong
It goes without saying that the style of valance you choose should be in
keeping with the style of the rest of the room but people often think that style is about color and fabric. In fact with valances it is the configuration that is most important as some are very formal in style and others are wonderfully informal. A stiff formal valance is not going to look good in a relaxed casual room and similarly a soft flowing valance will look out of place in formal room such as a traditional dining room full of antique furniture.
3. Getting the Length Wrong
Once you have the basic style right, the details can trip you up. Make sure that the length of your valance is in proportion to the window. If you are not sure check by taping various widths of paper across the top of the window and standing back to see the effect. You will quickly see that certain lengths look terrible while others are just right for your windows.
