What to Plant as a New Gardener
When you are first starting a vegetable garden, you are faced with many decisions that you have to deal with pretty quickly. For example, one thing that every gardener has to contend with is choosing what to grow. You have so many options, and since nearly everything tastes good, most people would like to have a little bit of everything. If you want to get a substantial amount of any crop, you need to dedicate at least some focus to it. You should choose a few crops to grow, but if you are new to gardening, you should probably limit your selection to those easiest to grow. Once you master control of those, you will be ready to move on to any plant that you want to see in your garden.
There are a few crops that are well known for being easy to grow, even when starting straight from the seed. These include lettuce, spinach, green beans, squash, carrots, peppers, onions, and tomatoes. The great thing about this selection is it is all you need to make great salads and dishes at your home, and although it is nothing too advanced, it should definitely suffice. I know that if I had all of that stuff, I wouldn’t need to add anything else to my dinnertime meals.
You might have the opportunity to get plants that are already somewhat matured, so you can just transplant them into your garden. This is good for people who are really new to gardening and just want to get a feel for it. On the other hand, many people want to nurture something from the time it is a seed, as it feels like you had more control over the growth of the plant. For the most part, this is true, but in the end, the final quality of the plant will not be that much different, whether you start with seed or not.
